The State of Kuwait has announced a new grant worth $1 million to support humanitarian efforts in Yemen, aimed at addressing hunger, combating infectious diseases, and assisting displaced and conflict-affected families.
According to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development signed an agreement on Sunday with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to contribute $1 million to the Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF). The grant will help deliver life-saving aid, curb the spread of diseases, and strengthen essential services in the country’s most vulnerable regions.
The fund also signed a separate agreement worth $3 million to support the Sudan Humanitarian Fund (SHF), bringing the total value of the two grants to $4 million. The initiative underscores Kuwait’s ongoing humanitarian commitment to assisting crisis-affected communities worldwide.
The agreements were signed by Tom Fletcher, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, and Waleed Al-Bahar, Acting Director-General of the Kuwait Fund.
Al-Bahar emphasized that the initiative reaffirms Kuwait’s dedication to supporting humanitarian and development efforts and assisting international organizations in responding swiftly to urgent needs in Yemen and Sudan.
For his part, Fletcher praised Kuwait’s leadership in humanitarian work, noting that the Kuwait Fund embodies the values of generosity and global responsibility, and serves as an active partner in saving lives and enhancing the global response to crises.
