The Israeli military announced on Monday that it intercepted four drones launched from Yemen within the span of one hour, triggering continuous air raid sirens in the southern city of Eilat.
In an initial statement, the Israeli army confirmed that its air force intercepted one drone launched from Yemen. Subsequent updates reported the interception of four drones in total, with air defenses engaging them over the Red Sea and the skies surrounding Eilat.
The attack coincided with ongoing negotiations in Cairo, where delegations from Hamas and Israel began intensive talks on Monday aimed at reaching a ceasefire in Gaza, arranging a prisoner exchange, and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid into the besieged enclave.
The incident took place on October 7, marking the second anniversary of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” attack launched by Hamas against Israel in 2023.
Just two days earlier, the Houthi group claimed responsibility for launching a “hypersonic” missile, designated Palestine-2, toward targets in occupied Jerusalem, describing the operation as “qualitative and unprecedented.” The Israeli army reported intercepting the missile and temporarily closing the airspace over Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv following the launch.
