Saudi Arabia Elected to IAEA Board of Governors

The 69th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), convening in Vienna, has elected the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a member of the Agency’s Board of Governors for the upcoming term, which runs until 2027.

The Board of Governors, composed of 35 member states, is one of the IAEA’s most influential decision-making bodies. It is tasked with addressing critical issues such as safeguards to verify the peaceful nature of nuclear activities under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), in addition to reviewing financial statements, programs, and budgets, and providing recommendations to the General Conference.
