Taiz: 86 Cholera Cases Reported in Two Days Amid Fears of Wider Outbreak Due to Garbage Pile-Up

Health authorities in Taiz have confirmed 86 cases of acute watery diarrhea and cholera over the past 48 hours, in what officials warn could signal an impending health catastrophe.

Tayseer Al-Samie, media officer at the provincial Health Office, described the figures as alarming, noting a continuous rise in suspected cases across several neighborhoods.

He cautioned that infection rates are likely to surge further in the coming days unless the accumulated garbage in city streets is urgently removed.

Al-Samie issued an urgent appeal to local authorities and relevant agencies to immediately address the waste crisis, which has worsened following a strike by Cleaning Fund workers in protest over the assassination of the Fund’s director, Iftihan Al-Mashhari.

The uncollected trash in neighborhoods and markets since last Thursday has created a breeding ground for infectious diseases, with the strike ongoing as workers demand the swift arrest and prosecution of Al-Mashhari’s killers.
