Adel Al-Aqeebi, Secretary of the Nasserist Unionist People’s Organization branch in Taiz, affirmed that the sit-in tents will remain in place as long as the local authorities insist on holding the torch-lighting ceremony in front of the governorate headquarters.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Al-Aqeebi proposed that the torch commemorating the 63rd anniversary of the September 26 Revolution be lit by the father or a sibling of the slain official Iftihan Al-Mashhari, or by a representative of the Cleaning Workers’ Union.
The torch-lighting ceremony is scheduled to take place this evening on Jamal Abdul Nasser Street, in front of the sit-in tents, alongside a large public demonstration commemorating the revolution. The event will also reaffirm protesters’ demands: ending chronic security chaos, holding all perpetrators accountable, dismissing military and security leaders, and restructuring the security and military institutions on a national basis.
