Non-Aligned Movement Reaffirms Support for Yemen’s Unity and a Peace Led by Its People

Foreign ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) have reiterated the international community’s firm commitment to supporting Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, and stability, stressing that a resolution to the Yemeni conflict can only be achieved through a peaceful, inclusive, and Yemeni-led political process.

In their final communiqué issued at the conclusion of the 19th NAM Ministerial Conference, held in Kampala, Uganda, under the theme “Deepening Cooperation for Global Prosperity,” the ministers emphasized that any political settlement must be based on the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216, in a way that fulfills the Yemeni people’s aspirations for change, reform, and development.

During his address to the meeting, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Mustafa Naaman reviewed the latest developments in Yemen, noting that peace efforts continue to be obstructed by the Houthi group’s intransigence, escalation, and rejection of peace initiatives. He warned that the group’s actions, including threats to regional security and international navigation in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, constitute violations of international law and serve foreign agendas disconnected from Yemen’s national interests.

Naaman reaffirmed the Yemeni government’s commitment to a just and sustainable peace grounded in the three agreed-upon references, urging NAM member states and development partners to continue supporting Yemen’s economic and humanitarian efforts, paving the way for lasting peace and inclusive development that would strengthen stability across the region and beyond.

On the Palestinian issue, Naaman expressed Yemen’s full solidarity with the Palestinian people in the face of ongoing Israeli aggression and atrocities in Gaza and the West Bank, describing Israel’s actions as “unprecedented in their brutality” and a blatant violation of international and humanitarian law.

He commended the efforts of Arab and Islamic nations, particularly Saudi Arabia, in rallying international support for the recognition of the State of Palestine, reaffirming Yemen’s unwavering stance in favor of the two-state solution in line with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative. Naaman also called on the international community to recognize the State of Palestine and uphold the Palestinian people’s right to freedom and dignity.

He further welcomed recent regional and international diplomatic efforts, including the ceasefire agreement in Gaza brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey under the U.S. peace plan proposed by President Donald Trump, stressing the need to build upon this momentum to resume a comprehensive and just peace process that ensures an end to the occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
