Projectile Strike Ignites Fire on Commercial Vessel in the Gulf of Aden

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported on Saturday that a commercial vessel came under attack from an unidentified projectile while sailing in the Gulf of Aden, approximately 116 nautical miles east of Aden, southern Yemen.

In a security advisory, UKMTO said the projectile caused a fire onboard the ship, though the nature of the attack and the party responsible remain unknown. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The agency urged all vessels transiting the area to exercise maximum caution and to report any suspicious movements or activities immediately. It added that monitoring teams are closely observing the situation and will continue providing regular updates.

This incident comes amid heightened tensions in international waterways across the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, following a series of attacks targeting commercial ships and oil tankers - raising renewed concerns over the safety of global maritime navigation in one of the world’s most strategic trade corridors.
