Local sources in Sana’a reported on Saturday that the Houthi group stormed the offices of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), arresting several staff members from UN and humanitarian organizations in a new escalation targeting the work of international agencies in areas under their control.
The escalation came just one day after the United Nations announced the appointment of Palestinian diplomat Maeen Shreim to lead efforts aimed at securing the release of detained UN employees held by the Houthis and preventing similar incidents in the future.
At a press briefing in New York, Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, confirmed that the Houthi group continues to carry out raids and arbitrary arrests of UN and international organization employees, in addition to seizing UN facilities and assets. He noted that these actions have forced the UN to reassess its operational framework in areas under Houthi control.
