Egypt has officially secured its place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a commanding 3–0 victory over Djibouti on Wednesday evening, in the ninth round of the African qualifiers.
The “Pharaohs” delivered a dominant performance from the start, with Ibrahim Adel opening the scoring in the 8th minute following a precise cross from Ahmed Sayed “Zizo.” Star forward Mohamed Salah doubled the lead in the 14th minute with a superb through ball, before sealing the win with a third goal in the 84th minute after a well-orchestrated team move led by Marwan Attia.
With this result, Egypt climbed to 23 points at the top of their group, securing qualification with one match to spare and maintaining a comfortable lead over nearest rivals Burkina Faso. This achievement marks the Pharaohs’ fourth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, following their participations in 1934, 1990, and 2018.
The qualification sparked widespread celebrations across the country. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi congratulated the players and coaching staff, praising the team’s strong performance as a reflection of their determination and resilience.
Egypt will conclude its qualifying campaign with a celebratory home match against Guinea-Bissau in Cairo, having already clinched its ticket to the global stage.
