Yemen Crushes Brunei 9-0 in Asian Cup Qualifiers

The Yemeni national football team delivered a stunning performance on Tuesday evening, thrashing Brunei 9–0 in the fourth round of the final qualifiers for the 2026 AFC Asian Cup, set to be hosted by Saudi Arabia.

The match, held at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait, was one-sided from start to finish, as “Al-Ahmar” (the Reds) dominated every aspect of play, showcasing exceptional attacking prowess that thrilled Yemeni and Arab fans alike.

Star striker Nasser Mohammedou stole the spotlight with an incredible five-goal haul (mega hat-trick), while Omar Al-Dahi netted twice. Abdulaziz Masnoom and Abdulmajid Sabara each added a goal to seal Yemen’s biggest victory in its qualifying campaign.

Yemen opened the scoring early through Mohammedou in the 12th minute, doubling the lead in the 27th, before Al-Dahi made it 3-0 in the 38th to end the first half comfortably ahead.

In the second half, Yemen’s relentless attack continued. Mohammedou added his third and fourth goals in the 51st and 54th minutes, followed by Masnoom’s strike in the 62nd and another from Al-Dahi in the 65th. Mohammedou scored again in the 84th to make it eight, before Sabara capped off the scoring spree in stoppage time.

With this emphatic win, Yemen climbed to eight points, securing second place in Group B behind Lebanon, who lead with ten points after a 4-0 victory over Bhutan in Doha.

The Reds will now gear up for two decisive fixtures on their road to the Asian Cup finals - against Bhutan on November 18, and Lebanon on March 31, 2026 - where back-to-back wins could guarantee Yemen’s direct qualification to the continental tournament.
